Why "DM for price" loses you customers

26 September 2026 · 5 min read

A traveller is comparing three agencies' posts for a Cappadocia tour. Two show a price; one says "DM for price". Most people won't send a message; they carry on with the two agencies whose prices they can see.

"DM for price" from the customer's side

  • An extra step: writing a message, waiting for a reply and the feeling of haggling wear out someone who is comparing options.
  • Distrust: a hidden price raises the question "will they quote me a different price?"
  • Evening enquiries: if a price asked in the evening is answered the next day, the traveller may already have booked elsewhere.
  • Work for your team: the same "how much is it?" question is answered by hand dozens of times a day.

The legal side: the direction is clear

In September 2026 Türkiye's Ministry of Trade announced administrative fines totalling ₺8.2 million on 82 businesses that advertised on social media with "DM for price". These inspections targeted real estate and car dealers; tourism is not currently their focus. But in the Ministry's words, hiding prices in a way that harms consumers will be stopped within the legal framework. Starting to show prices openly today is the safest path for both customers and compliance.

What if the price varies?

Tour prices change with the date, room type and group size. That is not a reason to hide them. Write the starting price together with its conditions:

From ₺12,500 per person · in a double room · for October dates

This short line tells the traveller straight away whether the tour fits their budget, and anyone who asks for details is now a genuinely interested customer.

Four ways to show prices

  1. In the post: the starting price and its condition in every tour caption.
  2. In highlights: a "Prices" highlight, updated at the start of each season.
  3. On the tour page: a table of dates and prices on each tour's own page.
  4. In an automated reply: anyone who types "price" automatically receives a link to the price list.

Two replies to "how much is it?"

Hi, we've DM'd you 🙏

Hello, our 3-day, 2-night Cappadocia tour starts from ₺12,500 per person for October dates, including hotel, all excursions except the balloon, and guiding. Send us your date and group size and we'll confirm the exact price right away.

In short

Showing the price doesn't mean giving up your room to negotiate; it simply makes the first step easier for the customer. A clear price brings the right customers and frees your team's time for people who really want to book.
